Za in the UK
They may be 6000 miles apart but the children and young people of Nkomazi and North Somerset have more in common than you might think. Which is why we regularly bring them together.
Every other year, Za brings a new Zakhele group from South Africa to tour schools in North Somerset, performing drama and music and working with students in creative workshops.
Za is also working with North Somerset Council to link 34 schools in North Somerset and Nkomazi. This is being supported by a Global School Partnerships grant from the British Council.

“When I first met the African people I was nervous but excited because I had never sung with foreign people before. However, then I heard them sing; they were incredible! I had never in my life heard such powerful vocals, or seen people perform with so much passion." “I thought it was a great experience. I got to meet some fantastic people, exchange cultures with them and create some amazing music! If I had the chance I would definitely do it all again.” -Feedback from Gordano School students ...
